HISTORY OF FIESTA CASTLE HILLS

Fiesta San Antonio started in 1891 as a one-parade event as a way to honor the memory of the heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. It has evolved into one of this nation’s premier festivals with an economic impact of more than $340 million for the Alamo City. Fiesta is the Party With a Purpose. and the funds raised by official Fiesta events provide services to San Antonio citizens throughout the year. That commemoration still takes place, but for more than a century, Fiesta has grown into a celebration of San Antonio’s rich and diverse cultures.
In 1999 a group of residents from Castle Hills, led by the Huizar family, thought that Fiesta San Antonio was getting larger and it was time for Castle Hills to have a celebration along with the city of San Antonio.  The idea was to have a small town celebration within the larger city.  The Huizars and a handful of other families, spoke with city officials, created and filled a survey asking residents about their feelings of having a community event right in Castle Hills.  The Huizars and handful of residents, business owners and city officials made it happen.  The goal was to create a fun family-friendly event to unite the Castle Hills community.
The Huizars and their group of friends ran Fiesta each year for 7 years.  Today the Huizars vision has grown into the all-day event including an evening music festival which will be the culmination of the celebration with visions of including Fiesta Royalty and other events in the next few years.
In 2017, the Castle Hills Community Organization (CHCO) volunteered to spearhead Fiesta Castle Hills.  The CHCO created a Board of Directors which undertook the planning and running of Fiesta Castle Hills.  For the last two years this group continues to preserve and celebrate the traditions of Fiesta Castle Hills.
It is with humble gratitude that we thank the Huizar family for creating this day of fun and frivolity that will continue to grow each year.
